Farewell
Bo Diddley, Sidney Pollack, Mel Ferrer, Yves Saint Laurent, and now Jim McKay. Years ago I started thinking that pretty soon we'd have at least one or two celebrity deaths every day. It seems to make sense; the sheer number of famous people has grown exponentially, particularly since the proliferation of TV about 50 years ago. Of course, lots of superstars never make it to old age, and many old legends have died over the years. But it seems like a much larger generation of household names is getting really old. I don't want to name names and put the kaibosh on anybody. I'm sure you can think of a few people. It's just something that's been hanging around the back of my mind for a while. Actually, it comes to the front of my mind almost daily as I turn on the computer and scan the top news headlines on my homepage. I guess it's akin to getting the daily paper and turning to the obits first. A few people I know do that. I've always thought it was so morbid.
