Wire Blog

Found this on Kottke:

Alan Sepinwall of the NJ Star Ledger is blogging each episode of The Wire Season 2. There's an edition without spoilers for new viewers, and a veteran's edition, which observes the parallels, links, echoes, and impacts of events throughout the entire series. You can also find Sepinwall's take on Season 1 here.

I'm in the camp that thinks Season 2 was extremely underrated. After pulling us in with Season 1 and making us work to reap the rewards, Simon & co. pull the rug out from under us. We're dropped into a completely different Baltimore, full of strangers, barely a friendly or familiar face in sight. I remember feeling hesitant, disappointed that there was no Bubbles, annoyed at Ziggy Sobotka. Season 2 started with a deficit and asked us to trust it. By the penultimate episode, it was a full-blown triumph. That's what convinced me that The Wire was a work of genius. Watch it again if you don't believe me.
